ILLUSTRATIVE CRAFTSMANSHIP with JULES ZACCAK

Lovers of all things hand made we recently ventured down a collaborative path with a fellow craftsman - Jules Zaccak. We asked him to take our current showroom pieces and artistically exhibit them into a simplistic illustrative form.

We have always appreciated illustration and are particularly inspired by the simplicity of black line drawings. We felt it was aesthetically pleasing yet practical, to present the proportions and specs of the different pieces in our range.

We met Jules through a shoot we were involved in with his girlfriend Stef Ingram (Stylist ). It is not often you meet a couple that you instantly click with, so after the shoot we invited them over for dinner and have been friends ever since.

Jules is one of those guys who silhouettes the dying art form known as “chivalry”. He is a complete gentleman and approaches every situation with integrity - Specifically design. Jules is meticulous and very professional with his relationships, design and just life in general. We love meeting new people, especially like-minded ones. Collaboration creates more opportunity keeping things interesting.

This year we hope to collaborate with more emerging artists as we ourselves are taking a massive leap moving our entire showroom and factory into a new space in Dee Why - on Sydney's Northern Beaches. It’s everything a New York Warehouse has to offer yet in Sydney with all the perks of living by the ocean. Lots of a natural light, high ceilings with endless character & opportunity to create a space that will lend itself to showcasing our current and up coming range. New designs will most likely evolve from the inspiration surrounding us in this new season of change for us as a family and a business.

We look forward to sharing this new space with you, along with the finished product of our range outplayed in illustration created by the talented Jules Zaccak. We managed to interview Jules himself and capture a glimpse of the illustrations in progress.

WHO IS JULES? DESCRIBE YOURSELF IN 5 WORDS.

Cranky old man, with a young spirit (that’s 7 sorry)

WHAT WAS THE CATALYST THAT SPURRED YOU TO WALK DOWN THE ROAD OF
DESIGN?

I’m constantly fascinated by how ‘things’ come together, which  generally happens through imagination. Plus also as a child, my best recourse to avoid grounding, was fixing back to new, all the things I would break before Dad found out.

WHAT DOES BREAKFAST TIME LOOK LIKE IN YOUR HOME?

On the mornings I have time, Fresh bread, cheese, freshly made hummus, fresh coffee (at least 2 cups) and freshly cut carrots and celery. Oh, and maybe the odd ham and cheese croissant. Otherwise a banana and coffee.

SOMETHING YOU REFUSE TO LIVE WITHOUT?

Happiness

WHAT SURPRISES YOU?

Human beings about their daily routine

WOULD YOU RATHER BE BATMAN OR SUPER MAN? AND WHY?

What about being Spider man? I’ve always wished I could climb buildings and swing freely between them not to mention ‘shooting out spidie web’. But out of Batman or Superman I would have to say Batman, having plenty of gadgets and a collection of all terrain transport vehicles would be a pretty awesome way to get around!

BEST ADVICE TO ASPIRING DESIGNERS.

Always believe in your ideas and work tirelessly in proving them

WHAT MOST INFLUENCES YOUR DESIGN STYLE?

Simplicity and vast expanses of settings, be it a natural or built environment.

WHAT MAKES TIME STOP FOR YOU?
Family, Friends and Food

LIFE MOTTO?
No regrets
